October Scavenger Hunt - Under Lock and Key

I belong to a group called Freeing your Wings on ning and this month was our first ever scavenger hunt challenge. The idea is to use everything on a given list to create something unique. It can be jewelry, a poem, a painting, sculpture -- any process you like that incorporates the elements on the list. This month's items were: a ribbon, a key, the color purple, a leaf, all or part of a book, bead(s), and the letter R.  Here's my entry:

I stretched it a bit on the letter "R" -- the quote is by Richard Bach.  That is an open book, stamped in the background with my newest Stewart Gill stamp from Artist Cellar. (I'll be doing a lot more with that baby.)  I made the leaves from book pages, spraying them with color and adhering some sparkling beads, folded book pages to form a sculpture, and attached the beautiful soul mate quote about locks and keys (which is absolutely meant for my husband) to a coffee stained tag.

If you are inspired to create something yourself, please let us know with a comment here so the group members can take a look at what you've made.  I'll post again with next month's challenge items if you think you might like to play along.

Teri, this totally looks like fun! I'm going to have to check out that group... I would love to hear more about it. And your Artistcellar stamps look GREAT!

Very cool! I'm going to do a couple of wreaths made from book pages and I'd love to "stain" the pages. What did you spray these "leaves" with?

Lisa, I used Adirondack Color Wash in butterscotch. It comes in lots of pretty colors. I think you can get it on Amazon.

Beautiful Teri!
I love the idea of that challenge.
Now make me some more hours in the day to do all the projects I see and fall in love with. Just today I jotted down four I want to do, and I'm not even 1/2 way through the blogs I follow.

Cool concept...a scavenger hunt...love that!

I think the leaves add so much to this piece...and even though it might not have been intended, I enjoyed the artistic pun of using leaves made from book pages (the "leaves of a book")...clever!

Where are you going to display it?

What a wonderful idea. I love this and I might just have to do a different version.
Most of all I love what you did with it. The pages are great and the whole "feel" of the piece is awesome. Can't wait to see more.
