What If

What if we had a day to remember the quiet people?  The ones who stand up in subways and give their seat to others.  The ones who do the things they say they'll do. The ones who participate in the committees they join or read the books they vote for in their reading groups. The people with integrity. They make all the other people who are skipping through life holding their breath and trying to keep together the cockeyed puzzle that resembles a life look utterly silly. What if we had a day to remember them?

Well if we did, I'd start with Debi at Emma Tree. Because one of Debi's blog posts was what got me thinking about this -- about the quiet person -- and how we don't pay nearly enough attention to those people.

Debi has a feature in Artful Blogging this month, on sale beginning today. If you haven't been to her blog yet, you should head on over.  It will give you something to think about, too.

Ah yes, "what if?" "The quiet people" ~ what a wonderful thought - to recognize "the quiet people". I agree - let's begin with Debbie.

I like the "what if". What if we all just actually looked someone in the eyes and smiled at them? What if we held the door for everybody, big, little, young, old, male, female? What if we picked up trash we saw on the street or bought a cup of coffee and put lots of cream and sugar, in the bag and gave it to a homeless person. What if, we all cared a little bit more about each other and our world and less about our to do list. Kudos to Debbie and you for reminding us to strive to be quiet people, on the path. :)Bea

Oh Bea, you've gotten it just right. Yes! (And I think Debbie would agree.)

What a lovely post and surely something for everyone to think about daily. The quiet people do get lost and forgotten in among everything else I think. They do things without wanting to get noticed or wanting to get praised. But I think that's the way they want it. :)

There really are far more "quiet" people than there are of the noisy ones but we do so often overlook them.
