Poetry Party Wednesday

This is an excerpt from a longer poem by Mary Oliver.  Paying attention to every moment is a worthy goal, I think, for me.

The Summer Day

I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass,
how to be idle and blessed,
how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.

Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

I am blessed with the ability to be idle and ponder my blessings. :) Lay in the grass and ponder the sky. Strolling through the fields sounds so lovely right now. My plan is to do more of all of the above.

Love this poem!

So this is where the phrase at the end came from. Will have to check her out. I'm not doing any more Haiku Humpdays for a while. I'll email ya why. xoxo

Have afternoon tea by myself at The Four Seasons in Hong Kong.... Only wish you were with me. :)

One other thing I am thinking of.. buying a 1979 electric typewriter. Asking myself why ... and saying 'just because'. :)

Best wishes Teri!

I love this poem. This is exactly what I try to teach my kids. Don't me a mass follower and do every little religious ritual just because. Think about what is 'good' in life and worthy of that behavior...and do it.
